Steven Spielberg has done it again, giving watchers an amazing experience with film-making.  As a director of a lot of blockbuster hits such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, and E.T. (The Extra-Terrestrial) and many more, his most recent film was Ready Player One, and it was amazing. It had surprising cameos from 80’s movies, music, videos game characters, and tons of pop-culture references. This film was based on the NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling novel by Ernst Cline. The movie was epic, hilarious, and had astonishing visual effects. My thoughts on this movie were: “Mind-Blowing,” “10 out of 10.” I would describe this movie as “A Futuristic 80’s Era  Film.”  Now moving into the movie and book comparison with 5 different changes in the book and the movie.

.) The Quest of the Copper Key: In the movie, it shows Parzival rode a vehicle which was the Delorean DMC-12 from Back To the Future Trilogy. The race was against other players to win the copper key. The location of the race was in the streets of New York in the OASIS. In the book however, The location of the Copper Key was actually in a game called Dungeons and Dragonsand then it’s followed by a match to the death of a classic game called JoustArt3mis was actually the first gunter to find the dungeon while Parzival was the first to beat Halliday’s avatar in Joust and got the Copper Key.

.) The Brothers: In the movie, Daito and Sho are real life brothers and Sho is only 11 years old. But in the book is very different because Daito and Sho never met in real life throughout the story. However, I couldn’t find any further details about them in the book.

.) Parzival & Art3mis’ first Date: In the film, after the race, Art3mis takes Parzival on a date, and the place they went to was called the Distracted Club with a Gravity dance floor, after they met and attempt to find another clue for the second key. In the book, The place called “The Distracted Globe” is the site of Orgden Morrow’ s 73rd birthday party, which both were invited to. Also, Parzival dresses up in a familiar clothing from a 1984’s movie, which is called The Adventures Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension in both the movie and the book.

.) The Final Battle: In this one, there are some similarities and differences that I found. In both, the Orb of Osuvox is the most likely a rare artifact that posses magic to create a force field around the final gateway. In the book however, the entrance to the final gate is called “Castle Anorak” and it was Halladay’s own creation in the OASIS. In the film, it’s a frozen planet with an old Atari console and a cube shaped television, located in the castle. In both, Parzival recruited the gunter community (Players of the OASIS) to come fight Sorrento’ s army called the Sixers. Also in the film, Art3miss sneaks in and disables the Orb.  But in the book, it was Parzival who was inside of the IOI and separated the orb from the castle and he decided to reprogram Johnny 5 to detonate a bomb inside of the field.

.) The ending of the Ready Player One: In the book, I read that Wade (Parzival) and Samantha (Art3mis) didn’t actually meet up in person, the other three of his friends did meet in the real world. It was only Wade who became the sole winner and he announces to the world that he is splitting the prize in four ways. In the movie however, it’s totally different because at the very end of the movie, Wade and Samantha are together and Wade decided he would do Tuesdays and Thursdays for closing the OASIS. Wade finally kissed Samantha in real life and after he kissed her, he said “For the first time in as long as I could remember, I had absolutely no desire to log back into the OASIS.”
