In Japanese culture there is a forest, the Aokigahara Forest or Sea of Trees, that is a supposed peaceful place to die. Throughout time there has been countless suicides in the forest that have become more and more numerous in recent years.  These events have coined the nickname of the forest “The Suicide Forest”.

In recent news a popular Youtuber, Logan Paul, has posted a video titled ‘We found a dead body in the suicide forest’ that went viral. Logan Paul received so much hate and backlash that he took the video down and even posted a tweet and video apologizing to the victim’s family and to his fans for what he did. However, a lot of the people say that these apologies were fake because of his character and personality, and the fact that he is an actor. The reason he has received so much backlash for what he did is because he only censored the face of the victim and showed the rest of the body, and his target audience is young kids from the ages of 7-12. Some of his really young fans jumped to his defense because they are so influenced by Logan and his brother Jake Paul.

In more recent events another video was posted of his trip to japan, showing huge disrespect toward Japan’s culture and people. In this video he was filmed disgracing a popular Japanese temple and as a result his whole group was kicked out of the temple by security. He later went into Tokyo and bought Pokemon pajamas and started throwing a plush Pokeball at random people on the street. He also was filmed undressing in the middle of a crosswalk and carrying a raw fish and a squid tentacle and offering it to people, and when he was done with them he placed them on a taxi in the middle of the street and left them. During this entire video he was talking about how they should ‘respect’ Japan, and throughout the video his statements on respect seemed to get more and more sarcastic.

When this video was released, tons of people realized that when Logan went into the forest it wasn’t the only moment he was being disrespectful during his trip.  He had been doing these things since he had arrived, and that every moment that he was supposedly sorry for, was purposely disrespectful. A lot of the people, including major Youtubers Jenna Marbles and Cody Ko, are criticizing him by calling these videos plain tasteless and disrespectful. Youtube, during these events, didn’t take down the video.  In some people’s eyes it would seem that Logan Paul is being backed by Youtube.

So far tons of people have been hating on Logan, and rightly so.  Some have even gone so far as to call for Youtube to take his entire Youtube channel down. These videos were not the first videos by Logan to be heavily criticized by the public; he has done this many times and then apologizing for. Usually when Jake Paul makes a tasteless video, Logan goes in with more tasteless videos making a vicious cycle of terrible content. A lot of people want their channels taken down for many reasons, one of which is that Youtube should be a place for creative people and artists to share their content for the public to be able to view and not a place to post the type of content that the Paul brothers post. For most creators, that type of posting isn’t acceptable and Youtube shouldn’t support that type of content. According to a tweet on Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul’s Twitter: “How dare you! You disgust me. I can’t believe that so many young people look up to you. So sad. Hopefully this latest video woke them up. You are pure trash. Plain and simple. Suicide is not a joke. Go rot in hell.” If you would like to see another story about Logan Paul’s trip to Japan, you can go here.
