As wrestling season rolled to an end, we have yet but noticed a shining star. Her name is Kyleigh Lopez and let me tell you, you would not want to rumble on the mat with her. She started her 8th grade year at Hedrick Middle School. Her dad Philip Lopez, ironically being the wrestling coach here at North, was against her doing it at first and even told her no! And of course she found out a way to pursue her dreams. Though slowly, as she got older, her passion for this difficult sport became bigger and bigger, and as of right now she is a two time state champion. She won her freshmen year, her following her sophomore year, and many more coming her way in the near future. Watching her wrestle will leave you on the edge of your seat. This girl is not someone you want to mess with.

Kyleigh has grown up on the mat room due to her father. When Kyleigh first started wrestling, Philip had no idea she was even pursuing in the sport because when she asked to do the sport, he told her no. “One time the middle school, coach had to leave and so I went to the middle school practice. I saw her there, and I looked at her.  She looked at me, and said ‘well mom said i could'” said Philip. As of right now Kyleigh is an All American wrestler and recently tried out for the world team, finishing in 5th place her freshman year.  Kyleigh has earned herself a triple crown.  In order in to get the crown, you have to win all three styles; freestyle, greco, and regular seasonal wrestling.

Kyeligh is a wrestling prodigy.  As a sophomore in High School, she has already won six tittles. And, many more are likely to come her way. She is a phenomenal female wrestler here at North Medford.  She ranks in the top 5 here in the US. Though she is good, she puts a lot of work and effort into this challenging sport. Us at the Tornado Times wish you the best of luck in the future.
